A note from June 2007
My children and I were sent to the Cooperative Feeding Program in Ft. Lauderdale. We found out that they collect hundreds of pounds of food every day for the homeless and less fortunate people. Thank God! We were told that there were about 400 people in this situation - what an eye opener. That information brought tears to my eyes, because it could be any one of us. We are so blessed to have what we have that sometimes it doesn't seem fair.
We opened boxes upon boxes of donated food, sorted them, put them on the shelves and started filling up boxes and bags with that food. In addition to feeding the homeless three times a day, this organization gives out boxes and bags of food to people who can't make ends meet.
Watching my children serve along with members of our church family with smiles on their faces, and them feeling that they've made a difference is priceless! My son asked if we could go back once a month and without hesitation I said "Definately". That brought tears to my eyes, because he gets it!
We had an awesome experience at the Cooperative Feeding Program. It's such a small amount of time to give, and the rewards of serving God and helping people who need so much make you feel worthy and useful. It touches your heart.
Thank you, Community Christian Church for this opportunity! I feel very blessed to be able to contribute in this way.
